Today I want to talk about Self-care and Self-love.
Everyone assigns different meanings to it. But if it brings happiness to you, then it is right!
What does "Self-care" mean?
The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines self-care as “the ability of individuals, families and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and cope with illness and disability with or without the support of a healthcare provider”.
Fundamental principles for self-care include aspects of the individual (e.g. self-reliance, empowerment, autonomy, personal responsibility, self-efficacy), hygiene (general and personal); nutrition (type and quality of food eaten); lifestyle (sporting activities, leisure, etc.); environmental factors (living conditions, social habits, etc.); socioeconomic factors (income level, cultural beliefs, etc.); and self-medication.
In total, it means the ability to take care of the self and protect from anything harmful to the body and mind of an individual. Again, we are facing psychological, economical, social, physiological problems during this period of COVID-19 and the need for self-care and love for self is very much needed. During these times of difficulty, the infinite love and care we can offer ourselves can help us face these problems with more hope!
